Pre-Departure Supervised Rapid Antigen Testing Service 

How do I know if I need a pre-departure test?

First, you need to confirm that a supervised COVID 19 Rapid Antigen Test is an acceptable form of proof of COVID 19 status for travel to your specific destination. Requirements for each country can be found by contacting their local High Commission, Embassy or Consulate in New Zealand. Alternatively, you can contact your airline carrier for this information. 

When do I get my test? 

This test needs to be taken as close to your departure date as possible, check the timing that applies to your destination country. This is usually required to be taken 24 hours prior to the international travel departure time. 

Do I have to pay for this test?

Yes, pre-departure testing for international travel is not covered by the public health response. It is a private service and is not funded. We charge $50 per test for this service. 

What if I have COVID 19 symptoms? 

DO NOT COME INTO THE PHARMACY FOR A RAPID ANTIGEN TEST. 

Before taking a supervised rapid antigen test the pharmacy staff will screen you. You must answer these questions before the pharmacy staff member will proceed with a test. 

  • If you are displaying any symptoms of COVID 19 

  • If you have been advised to self-isolate or 

  • If you have been identified as a household contact 

If you answer yes to any of the above questions, the pharmacy staff will not be able to perform the test and you will be asked to self-isolate following current Ministry of Health guidelines. 

Can I walk-in or do I need to book in advance for this service? 

Yes, you will need to book in advance for this service. Please call in advance to make sure there is the capacity to see you, call us on 09 638 8839. 

What do I bring to the test? 

The pharmacy staff will need to verify your identity by requesting your passport. This is a necessity for international pre-departure travel supervised RAT. 

How long will it take? 

Rapid antigen test results will be available within 15-30 minutes. 

What happens if my test is negative? 

You will be issued with a document of proof of negative COVID 19 Rapid Antigen Test by the pharmacy staff. 

 

Remember to take your negative test result with you to the airport for check-in. You may need to show your results to customs or immigration on arrival at your destination. 

What happens if my test is positive? 

If the test is positive the pharmacy staff will talk to you about your next step, but you will not be able to travel. 

What if my test is invalid? 

 The test will need to be redone, but you will need to wait 24 hours which may disrupt your travel plans.
